Newport County AFC, Dragons Rugby and Rodney Parade are pleased the Welsh Government has now approved the hosting of the first pilot event at a stadium in Wales.
Newport County AFC’s Sky Bet League Two play-off semi-final first leg against Forest Green Rovers on Tuesday 18th May will be the first sporting event in Wales which will have fans present since March 2020.
We have produced a plan under the current guidelines which has been approved by the local authorities, Safety Advisory Group and the Welsh Government for the safe return of supporters to Rodney Parade.
Newport County AFC can now confirm that 900 tickets will be made available for the fixture following the approval of our proposals. Further information about tickets can be found here.
Staff from all three organisations have been working tirelessly behind the scenes to ensure that we are able to welcome supporters back at the earliest opportunity.
Newport County AFC Chairman, Gavin Foxall, said: "My thanks to our club staff, Rodney Parade and multiple stakeholders who have come together in a relatively short space of time to ensure our play-off fixture can operate as a pilot event for the safe return of fans."
Mark Jones, Managing Director at Dragons, said: "We are very grateful to the Welsh Government for selecting Rodney Parade as the first test event in Welsh sport and will continue to work closely with them and all key stakeholders to prepare for the fixture.
"We all want to see fans back enjoying sport and this event is a vital step forward in the safe return of all supporters from Dragons and Newport County in the not-to-distant future. We will do all we can collectively to ensure it is a success.”
