At least they didn't have to watch another poor showing from their side like we have three times this week.If we had performed anything like we did early season and won because Woking were there for the taking because they weren't that good we would have opened a lovely 7 point gap on them

This is was really happened -

HEAVY RAIN THWARTS IRON
Lunchtime downpours - cause 1.30 postponement
Braintree Town's Blue Square Bet Premier match at home to Wrexham was postponed at 1.30 on Saturday with the Amlin Stadium pitch under water. Heavy rainfall around noon left the match referee Charles Breakspear unsure if the match would go ahead when he inspected the pitch on his arrival at the ground. Rather than make an impromptu decision, the referee decided to take a further look at the pitch at 1.30. Unfortunately, this coincided with further heavy rain which left the pitch inundated and therefore unplayable. After consulting with both team managers and the FA match assessor, the match referee decided that the pitch was not fit and the match was postponed. A new date will be advised when agreed.

Wrexhams view
As the rain hammered down on Braintree, our hopes were washed away. The Wrexham players knew as soon as they arrived at Braintree that conditions were far from good and they were left helpless as they waited for news in their dressing room.

Our picture shows Michael Oakes, Billy Barr and Ritson Lloyd taking shelter in one of the dugouts as they watched the match officials make a pitch inspection.

“You make all your preparations for the game, but then the weather overtakes every one,” said assistant manager Billy Barr.

“Leaving the hotel, you could see the amount of rain that had fallen in a short time and it was little better as we made the short trip to the ground.

“On arriving here the car park was awash, so we knew we were in trouble and getting our first look at the pitch was not encouraging.

“In the end, I don’t think anyone can argue with the decision to postpone the match – although it was the last thing any of us wanted.

“It’s been a wasted trip for both players and fans – and we’ll have to go through it all over again on a Tuesday night, which is far from ideal.”

For new loan signing Danny Alfei, it was particularly disappointing, as he will now have to wait another 10 days for his next chance of a first appearance back in a Wrexham shirt, as he is ineligible to play in next weekend’s FA Cup tie with Alfreton Town.

“It didn’t look good when we pulled into the car park and while we had to go through our normal pre-match preparation in the dressing room, the news filtering through to us was not encouraging,” said the Swansea City defender.

“We were all looking forward to the match and to be denied that opportunity just deflates you.

“It’s a long way down here from Wrexham and we just wanted to play, but the pitch looked in poor shape and we have to accept that decision.”
