Why isn't the BBC radio structure in Wales the same as in England, where there is a local radio station based in every major city or county, which cover their local football teams. If that were the case there would be BBC Radio Swansea, BBC Radio Cardiff and BBC Radio Newport (or Gwent), and the latter would provide commentary for every match.

Swansea fans named it Bluebirds broadcasting company. They have cut back so many services, splitting funding between north and south wales and put 3 into 2. Sports Wales was a half decent program which used to cover County and other diverse sports. To be fair the past match phone in is good and they give fans chance to have their say but apart from Blakey and Perry I hear little warmth and passion coming back.

Based on total population there should be at least two or three, and geographically definitely at least two. Don't call it "Gwent" though!

Ok what shall we call it? Something snappy like Radio Newport Torfaen Monmouthshire Blaenau Gwent Caerphilly (Radio NTMBC for short)?

I came across this from WalesOnline in a quick search

http://www.walesonline.co.uk/sport/foot ... l-13093487

Talking about the deal TalkSport have with the EFL and how ...
"a statement from BBC Wales confirmed the deal only affects national (UK-wide) radio coverage and wouldn't impinge on Radio Wales' weekly and regular coverage of Cardiff City and Newport County."

"...BBC Wales has confirmed local radio commentary of Cardiff City and Newport County games will not be affected by the deal, which only impacts the role of the BBC's national stations."

I stupidly thought it may have been due to the TalkSport deal, but its obviously just down to the fact that they don't want to give us any air time.
