People seemed to think that Pardew would bring a more attractive style of football to West Brom.

They didn't seem to realise that Pulis's style was dictated by the poor standard of players at the club.

Pulis' style was dictated by Pulis, as with every other team he's managed - and every side after him has the tricky task of trying to play a more attractive style of football as invariably demanded by the fans after a few years of mid-table nothingness with rigid systems and set-pieces, whilst utilising a set of players specifically recruited to play to the strengths of Pulis' systems. Not bad players, just players who've got used to being coached in a particular way to do certain things well that need to be deprogrammed a bit.

Pardew having questionable merit as a manager to turn things around also hasn't helped them this season.

All post-Pulis clubs expect at least the same results with a completely different playing style. Doesn't really work like that.
