You can't blame the midfield for "being the weak link" when we literally never, ever try to use them as part of attacking play.Taunton Iron Cider wrote:Usual suspects of Nouble and Wilmott are poor. The midfield is once again proving to be the weak link, although as the first half progressed they did improve slightly. What on earth has Sheehan got to do to get a game? At half time, Flynn needs to replace Wilmott, but we all know that won't happen, and swap Nouble for Hayes.
Sticking Sheehan on the pitch yesterday would have been an absolute waste of time, he'd have just been watching the ball getting lumped from our full backs behind their full backs and centre backs and then out for a throw in. Even in the second half when we kept the ball in their half slightly more it was simple passes out wide and nothing resembling through balls to feet or players running at the defence, because the ball was never in the position for them to get it down and the defence was choosing to clear it beyond them all the time.
Hayes looked like he had something about him as long as the ball was played to his feet or accurately to his head - pretty unlucky to see a flag when he won the ball at the near post (whilst being fouled by the player he was supposed to be the wrong side of for the offside decision) and then putting a good cross into the box for a tap-in before the flag was seen.
