In my opinion yes we do need that many back room staff to prepare adequately and spread the workload. Helps immensely when you've got more eyes to pick out problems plus they will all have different motivational attributes and skill sets.
Most academies will have 3 coaches per team and that's with kids when there's nowhere near the financial rewards involved so makes sense that a professional club will have the number of staff you saw yesterday.
