Bangor City

Bangor, who were members of the Irate eight but made an about turn and joined the League of Wales, with their chairman giving evidence on behalf of the FAW at the restraint of trade trial, have been forceably relegated from the WPL after failing to get the required licence. They will play in the Cymru Alliance next season and will not be given a Euro Cup place despite finishing 3rd in the WPL.

Owned by the Vaughan family who have previously destroyed Chester and Barrow amongst others.

Will be interesting to see whether they apply for the English system. I can't see that Wales' international status is at risk after a semi-final appearance at the Euro's so the FAW don't really have too much of an argument anymore.

The FA won't allow Bangor to rejoin the English system. They choose the Wales way and are stuck with it. Welsh clubs playing in the English system are restricted to County, Swansea, Cardiff, Wrexham, Colwyn Bay and Merthyr. No others will be allowed and if any of these leave to join the Welsh system the move will be regarded as permanent by the football authorities.

The Welsh Cup Final is the causing uncertainty too. If Aberystwyth win, there's a 4 team play-off. If Connah's Quay win, it's a 3 team play-off.

Shame about Bangor, probably the biggest club in the Welsh system. What you get with the Vaughan's though.

Not doubting you but where does that information come from?

From following the Irate 8 saga, the high court ruling and subsequent events. Most notably the admission of Merthyr Town to the Western League without opposition from the FAW. Merthyr's position was similar to Newport AFC's. Phoenix club representing a community with a long tradition of uninterrupted membership of English leagues. Bangor and other hand, although they have a past record of NPL membership, voluntarily joined the Welsh system. Nowadays the trade of their players is playing in Welsh football. They could not claim restraint of their ability to carry on their trade simply because their club is restrained by the FAW and FA from changing countries. As a general rule FIFA insists that clubs play in their own national leagues. There are a few exceptions for practical (Berwick Rangers, Monaco) and historic reasons (Newport County etc. in Wales and TNS in England).

That is your assessment and opinion. It is not a fact. My opinion is that you are wrong. Unless or until a club endeavours to play in the English from Wales there is no way of knowing who is right. Simply put there are many issues on which the answer is unknown. It is an unfortunate fact on message boards that opinion is presented as fact.

I haven't read all the detail on this. Is there actually any suggestion that Bangor will seek a home in the English pyramid? They may run the risk of burning their bridges with the FAW and being entirely cast adrift. My guess is they'll just have to take it on the chin and muddle along for a year or two.
