Wales v Russia at Spytty Park

Postby Blackandamber » June 12th, 2018, 3:20 pm

The women's world cup match at Spytty Park has sold out. Anyone know what the capacity is?

It's rather strange that Spytty is suitable for an international world cup match but isn't suitable for league 2 football. :o

Fair play that they've sold out, I was going to pay on the gate but it's on BBC 2 wales tonight.
When we played there I think the capacity was 4,000. There were only 2,500 at the Liberty for the last game.

Looking forward to it. They were alright against Bosnia and that Jess Fishlock is quality.

The capacity for this match will be about 1,300 I think.
Stand only being used.

In all the years I've been going over Spytty, I've never heard it called the way Jason Mohammed just pronounced it.

Me neither (and I lived in Spytty Lane for 6 years) but apparently that's the correct pronunciation (sputty).

Well there seemed to be a few more syllables in it at the beginning. Wouldn't even know who to write his version, All I can say is it certainly didn't sound like Spit-y

Apparently derived from the welsh word for hospital i.e ysbyty. Allegedly a isolation hospital was located in the area in the middle ages by monks. Plague sufferers, Lepers perhaps ?

Fair play, that Fishlock is having a great game. She'd walk into our midfield...

That is correct , although I think it was a hospital for tropical diseases ?? Might be wrong on that one , but definitely the site of a hospital
