If the academy players were good enough, we'd have them in the matchday squad. We did it with Hughes, Evans, Collins & Poole. Obviously the current lot aren't up to that standard yet.

The above, of course, depends upon the academy players having the sufficient caliber to step up to the first-team.

I heard that we might be bringing in a former AFC Wimbledon defender in on a free, the only player I could think of matching that description is Barry Fuller. Not a bad potential signing, if it is him.

You may well be right, I don't know. Surely though, it is more midfielders we need, not defenders?
