I would be surprised if the ref that allowed that game was t punished. There’s a damn obvious danger to life in rucks and scrums on that pitch.
Agree but isn’t there still an element of “ if the teams agree “ type of system still operating with the rugby boys?

Is that photo from the Dragons v Newcastle game the season before last? As reported by the Argus, it was a circus reflecting badly on the city - their words. Wales Online quoted the Dragons CEO as saying the ref left the decision to the clubs! Newcastle obviously wouldn't have wanted to make the journey twice.

There was a contingency to switch it to Cross Keys but the ref, travelling from the Northeast on the day, arrived too late for this. A stand-in took over during the game and called a halt on 68 minutes with the score standing.

Exactly, it’s like it used to be at the old Spytty playing fields back in the day. I remember playing for a team with a backlog of fixtures, the ref took one glance at the pitch ( basically a lake with a couple of islands ) and went home for Sunday lunch. The two teams decided to play, we found an innocent bystander plus dog who agreed to ref it as long as he didn’t have to come on the pitch! It was a Cup match and after 90 minutes of island-hopping and thrashing about in the lake, it was 0-0. We tossed a coin to get the result which is probably what we should have done in the first place.
