Indeed. Well done to those who acted, particularly the Grimsby fan who reported “one of his own” to stewards, despite some of the GTFC contingent arguing that he shouldn’t have been a “grass”. I’m sure the incident will be properly investigated and appropriate sanctions given.

Sad to see the Argus headline proclaiming an arrest for racism at a Newport County match, without making it clear that the incident was in the away end. Totally unnecessary damage to our fans’ reputation, purely to try and flog more papers / get more clicks. Especially disappointing to see it from Ian Craig, who in general is a pretty decent journo.

Bit harsh , mate ??
They’ve got history on this sort of thing mate, don’t you remember the so-called racial incidents at Spytty Park? I do because I was there and they were and are a total fiction.

Grimsby club statement:-
Club Statement regarding racist behaviour from the weekend at Newport County.

Grimsby Town Football Club are aware of racist behaviour which occurred during our fixture away at Newport County on Saturday 25th August within our own fan base.

The club are currently awaiting further information from Newport County and the police regarding the incident, in which an individual was arrested on suspicion of making racial comments.

Grimsby Town Football Club wishes to reiterate that it 100% supports any individual who wishes to report such behaviour, whether at Blundell Park or whilst travelling away from home. Racism has no place in football or society.
Yes pretty pathetic for the Argus to report it the way they did, without making it clear it did not involve A Newport fan.
