On December 5th 1908 Newcastle United were beaten 9-1. To make matters worse it was a home defeat. To make matters even worse they lost to Sunderland.
This notwithstanding Newcastle finished the same the season as League champions.

3Really. Isn't it proof that a team who has suffered a very heavy home defeat has won the league that season? Whether it has any relevence to the County remains to be seen.mad norm wrote:Which goes to prove absolutely nothingStan A. Einstein wrote:On December 5th 1908 Newcastle United were beaten 9-1. I dare say the game has changed somewhat in the interim.
What would be interesting to know is whether any team has lost 6-0 at home in League 2, since it has been called League 2, and gone on to be promoted in the same season.
Maybe though it was all part of Flynn's cunning plan to make history this season by doing so for the first time?
Re: To cheer you all up.
6A more recent example was in 2009 when Norwich lost at home to Colchester 1-7 on the opening day of the season but ended up as League 1 champions

7Complete crap. Read his previous posts. If you can't be bothered to do that, then don't comment on things you don't know. The Newport wrote:mad norm wrote:Which goes to prove absolutely nothingStan A. 8Norm has seen County play, I've met him on a couple of occasions, I think his comment was tongue in cheek.

Thanks to Brendan for starting the thread.
I knew it was all part of a master plan
County's going up.
Re: To cheer you all up.
10Didn't we get a 5-1stuffing from I think it may have been fgr the season we went up ?
Re: To cheer you all up.
12I only posted up to offer a bit of light relief. And just to be clear I was not in the slightest bit put out by Mad Norm's tongue in cheek comment. Although now the contract has been put out I wish to assure Norm that the hit will be very professional and he will know nothing about it.

We beat them 6 - 4 on the following day and finished the season top of the League.
Bill Lucas was playing for Swindon at the time.
