..."as we qualify for the inaugural season of the Conference South, within a reasonably short time, Newport County would storm the division by a massive number of points, get back into the League, have some great headline grabbing cup runs, and be in with a chance of reaching League One, all with 4 appearances at Wembley along the way, with a heartstopping League survival in a Great Escape, along with steady progress in the League"......
Sometimes, it's so easy to forget how great it has been to support County these past 10 yrs or so.
Whatever happens Saturday, supporting this club is one hell of a ride!
Re: I'd have laughed if anyone had told me....
2I'll always remember the last game of the season before we won the Conference South. We were at Welling and played some great football and won (0-3?). Welling supporters didn't get it, we were celebrating finishing seventh or eighth, and they didn't get it. There was a feeling amongst our support that something was developing. The next season proved it.

3When Norman Parselle scored that first goal for Newport AFC, ar Moreton-in-Marsh, this was just a far off dream.

4I don't think there is any other club that can match the rollercoaster ride that is Newpôrt County.
In my 50 odd years of watching us;
Years of mid table mediocrity
Welsh cup win
Promotion from the 4th division
European Cup winners cup quarter final
Another near promotion from the old 3rd division
Relegation
Relegation
Oblivion
25 years in the wilderness
Promotion
Promotion
Promotion
4 appearances at Wembley
FA Cup scalps of massive clubs along the way, Leicester, Middlesborough, Leeds and nearly Spurs
Playing the Premier League champions at home and holding them for nearly an hour.
Play off final again at Wembley
Only at Newpôrt County, only at Newpôrt County. A rollercoaster indeed.
Edit - forgot the Great escape part 2 and come to think of it, part 1 in the 70's as well.

5Safe to say it’s never boring following the County is it...
I work with an Evertonian who moans that there seasons are almost always over more or less by March, no cups, no title challenge, no relegation etc.
Give me the rollercoaster ride that is the County any day!
