Exactly this. Potential is only worth what gets realised. They feel that if they put him in their youth setup he can achieve a certain level, but that doesn't imply that his current level is good enough for L2.

I'm the first to bang the drum for giving youth a chance - I'm sad Foulston is out on another loan, and hope Touray and Collins stick around and feature in the squad this year - but not every youth player is ready for senior football, even at 18/19, especially not in a physical league like L2.

Hopefully we get adequate compensation, but as has been mentioned above, the EPPP is a real kick in the ribs for clubs at our level.
