Does anyone know if international players still receive an actual cap?

I did a stadium tour of Hampden Park and the guide said that Scotland players still receive caps.

You get one for your first appearance then (i think) one for every ten matches.

As a child I remember reading, I think in the wonderfully entitled 'Charlie Buchan's Football Monthly' that England players got a cap for each appearance whereas Welsh and Scots got one cap per season with the badge(s) of the team(s) they had played crocheted into the cap.

It's nice to think some traditions last.

My sister-in-law is a big crocheter and would love to see a photo of one of these caps with crocheted badges. I'd not heard of the before. Can anyone find one for me to show to her?

On the subject of Scotland football caps, there's a very telling and moving story regarding Stewart Imlach (FA Cup winner with Nottingham Forest in 1959) who won four international caps but never received one.

In his must read memoir of his father, Gary (Tour de France) Imlach writes of his fight to change the crazy rule that Scotland caps were only awarded for home internationals. Stewart played against Hungary, Poland , Yugoslavia and France, including two games at the World Cup finals in Sweden in 1958.

My dad made his debut for the over 65’s welsh national team recently and he got a cap.

I watched them training a couple of years ago, they’re a good watch. Some good passing movements and if you’re a young ref you wouldn’t have much trouble keeping up with play I suspect
