The Most Average Newport County Players

Postby Kevinmoorefellover » November 1st, 2019, 6:44 pm

Over the years I've seen topics on the best ever Newport County players and worst ever County players. But what about the most average County players? Those that were not great but not bad either. My vote would go to Danny Holmes.

What gives me a good laugh is players who turn down a Contract with us and think they can do better.
Holmes is one of these.
The best was Mary who turned down a new contract.
I was gobsmacked that Flynny even offered him one and like Holmes they both plummeted.
Another was Elito (The Spaniard) little joke me and Supporter.
Where is he now also.
And so it goes on and on.

Didn't Holmes just want to get closer to home?

The tank. Lee Minshull. Very strong and good at our level. Can't really say that he should have played in a higher league and I think he dropped into lower leagues after he left us. I enjoyed watching him and he always did a shift. Not the most talented of players but very strong. One of the best 'average' County players I have seen. No idea where he is now.

Mike Pratt. Now with the County in the Community team I believe. Loved watching him play.

Scott Rogers: great going forward, good shot, often missing when we were under pressure.

He's not though.
Continually injured.
All his appearances have been 1 to 5 mins at end of each game.

Good call for us oldies.
Wonder how many on hear saw him.
35 games for Cardiff in 4 years on the periphery.
84 for Rovers
In 3 seasons with us 68 games.
Never ever scored a league goal.
Pretty sure he was in the team at Burnley in the cup.
Great day out full train load of us about 10 coaches. (never ever happen again)
Autograph in the collection.
Passed in 2011 at 79 years young.

Colin Sinclair...A striker we signed in the late 70s. He'd done okay previously for Darlington but don't recall him doing much for us. Not sure whatever happened to him.....
Will look him up on wiki after posting this...Cheers

Chris Townsend. I can still see his face at Armitage 90. (The pigswill must have hindered his game!)
