That way, no side can be in a situation mid-season where players and staff are refusing to work, and the league season can be played out in its entirety.

I'm sure there are challenges with such an approach - not least that any owner would need to come up with 12 months' worth of outgoings in one big lump - but frankly if the integrity of the competition is to be restored / maintained then it seems a worthwhile price to pay.

Suggested that before Ed my answer is all TV money is held in a bond and paid at end of season in case this sort of thing happens

If it does the money is paid directly by FA to the players/staff the club gets its money owed at end of season minus any money owed

Why aren’t we in charge‽
They have done it in local leagues for years mate

I think its 300 quid deposit for each club that enters the Newport and district so if the team folds say half way through a season the deposit pays the fines owed etc other wise the local leagues wouldn't get the money

It's probably tomorrow's EFL Trophy game that's brought this to a head. A team made up of loan players and youth team would probably not meet the qualifications of 'matches played'. Resulting in expulsion from the competition plus other fines. If that has resulted in wages being paid, then at least its a start.

No. I think if they play the same team they played in their last first team fixture then they have a qualifying team.

It's getting murkier. Apparently there is now police involvement. The suggestion seems to be that whilst pension contributions were taken from players wages, they were not paid into their pension fund. Meanwhile the EFL have laid misconduct charges associated with late payment of wages.

That isn't sounding promising ??
No wonder Sol Campbell got out quick !

Watch this space. Macclesfield players have given the club until six o'clock to pay their wages otherwise they will refuse to play tomorrow against Mansfield. Apparently only three players were paid in the aftermath of their strike action on Sunday, so just a token effort really. Tick, tock......

He didn't get out that quick. If I remember rightly he had not been paid for three months before he quit.

Don't think that will happen. If they don't play, surely the fixture will be 'suspended', like the Bury fixtures. If Macclesfield get through this, they will have to play catchup, if not then all their previous results will be wiped from the records.

And no team will get relegated from League 2.

Portsmouth did the same thing with PAYE contributions for about 3 years...

FWIW not all local leagues hold deposits to pay fines, the Meon Valley League down here takes registered players from folded clubs and suspends them until they pay their share of the money the clubs owe. Which obviously is very unfair if you happen to sign and not play and the club folds and you're left owing money for nothing. Especially if, say, one of the reasons you didn't complete the fixtures is the League insisting you play back to back matches on the same day when there are 3 months of the season left and you only have six games left... (which might have happened)...
