18Sorry Brendan,I have an unusual sense of humour. The thread is It is what it is,Flynny uses this phrase a lot.He also uses everything in my post.Stan A. Einstein wrote:Season is over Percy.Percy plunkett wrote:Listen, the next game is huge if I'm honest, massive.

19Just watched MOTD2 and Jose must be listening to Flynny,he said It is what it is.
Re: It is what it is
20Brendan, I'm sure you used season is over as a throwaway line but do remember that 31 years ago our season really was over right about now. However bad this season has been we have another 12 matches of Newport County in the football league to look forward to. Not much I grant you but so much more than 1989 and no, we shouldn't be grateful just for that, we should expect more.Stan A. And Flynn has already identified what will guarantee success next season, he's going to spend a fortune on a top rate goalscorer. What could possible go wrong?
Re: It is what it is
21I heard that also. But I've also heard lots of coaches/ managers from many different sports over the years use the phrase.Percy plunkett wrote:Just watched MOTD2 and Jose must be listening to Flynny,he said It is what it is.
Obviously all deserve the sack.

22In the early 1980's County hit a golden patch. We had a superb team, we could and should have made the old Division 2. The Championship for all you under 40. We owned Somerton Park. We had European football and a realistic prospect of more. And crowds in excess of 5,000 and sometimes five figures became the norm. I can remember County beating the likes of Wolves and Blackpool and Sheffield United and Fulham. In fact I recall sticking four on Sheffield United, Blackpool and Hull.Amberexile wrote:Brendan, I'm sure you used season is over as a throwaway line but do remember that 31 years ago our season really was over right about now. But during that time we didn't invest in infrastructure. Rather than build a decent stand at Somerton we chose to 'invest' in players like Waddle and Johnson. And when the downturn came we couldn't weather the storm. Six years between the quarter final of a major European competition to non league and oblivion.
This is my point Paul. In the 32 years since reformation we have never build our club. It has always been short term. I agree with you about 31 years ago, but for me right now it feels like 33 years ago.
I am no great fan of Foxhall and Ward, I have reservations about Flynn. But to blame any individual is to miss the point. We are all accountable for this mess. Newport County are my passion. And I am not alone. I genuinely believe we can do so much better. But until we realize that making excuses for failure and defending mediocre leadership leads only to disappointment, we are destined to fail.

Ward is due to be up for re-election this year I believe.
Re: It is what it is
24What's the point of making it personal? What our club needs is not to get rid of any individual, it needs someone in Newport with a bit of oomph. That ability to galvanize people. Someone who believes in Newport County, someone who believes that the best form of leadership is to inspire.Amberexile wrote:Stan A. Einstein wrote:In the early 1980's County hit a golden patch. True story.
The late Paul Flynn attended a workplace meeting of public servants. I'll not say who where or when, but the upshot was that one worker there lambasted the Labour controlled Council, the then Labour government and Paul Flynn in particular. Her point, or at least her main point, was that the entire system of politicians had wonderful ideas which simply didn't work and that she was frankly fed up to the eyeballs with the whole lot of them. She let him have both barrels.
The next day she got a phone call from Paul Flynn. He wanted to see her and have a long discussion as to what the problems were and how best to address them.
Paul Flynn was not only a leader but much loved one. That is why.
Re: It is what it is
25He's had the team playing the same way all season, as far as I can tell from the games I've seen. I'm genuinely interested in trying to understand his thought processes when, on a windy afternoon in Oldham, he decides our best attacking option is to stick with Matt upfront. I could've told him that would end badly. Why didn't he know that too and try something different? We need to keep the ball down when conditions are bad. This, I think, is why we tend to be shit in the depths of winter, but better in autumn and spring.
Re: It is what it is
26I'd like to know what is Lenny Lawrence paid for?
Surely it would've to advise on tactics etc.,perhaps he is and Flynn takes no notice!

Mike Flynn currently has a contract as Newport County manager until at least June 2022

Moving on and being personal.
I have just read Michael Flynn's comments in the Argus regarding the character of his team.
It's convinced me Flynn should go now.
