Actually I suspect that you have the subjective reason why it's famous. However there is an objective reason for it being a record.

Huddersfield were 5-1 up with 20 minutes to play against Charlton but contrived to lose 7-6. Subjectively the greatest comeback of all time. Objectively 6 is the highest score in a league game scored by the side which lost.

So 21st May 1921. Stockport v Leicester. What is remarkable about this game?

My memory half right. Having had an opportunity to check, the game was a full 90 minutes - and the reason for the low attendance was that it played at Old Trafford as Edgeley Park had been closed by order of the FA.!
