Sadly passed away today.

I met him when he was playing for Bristol City. They had just played County in a friendly game and I was about 13 and a regular autograph collector after each game. I remember being quite worried about approaching him, so fierce was his reputation, but he came across as a great bloke. I remember him being very friendly and chatty with all the autograph hunters.

The first football league game I ever saw was Bristol City 2 Everton 2. Big Norm scored an absolute screamer.
