Another giant of my childhood departs.
Here in Ireland he is a hero for his efforts for the National team of the late 1980's early 90's. Loved fishing here and being a canny lad always paid for his meals and drinks by cheque. Given the option of framing the cheque or cashing it, most publicans chose the former, and in pubs from Donegal to Dingle the cheques in a glass frame proudly hang to this day.
God rest ye.
Re: Jack Charlton.
2On making his Leeds debut aged 17,he asked the manager,”What tactics do you want me to use”,Raich Carter the manager said,”See how quick you can make their number 9 limp”.Great quote from Jack.
Re: Jack Charlton.
3A giant of the game, literally as well. RIP Jack. Some great stories told about him by Lawro on Football Focus yesterday. Allegedly he was tight. So tight said Lawro that he owed himself £40. Brilliant.
