Can't recall we did. I can recall terrace talk in that era (not that particular year) about why we never seemed to sign loan players when other teams did. Money (lack of) probably.

Of course, Dave Bruton did play for us on loan from Swansea, but that was a year or two before the promotion season.

Good point about Dave's brother. Had forgotten about him. Might have been a loan. He went back to Gloucester before season's end IIRC.

Bobby Ward. Fairly sure he was permanent, though he only played a few games. Could be wrong.

In the early 1980s I think Neville Chamberlain was on loan to us before he signed a permanent deal

Bruton cost £2500 from Gloucester but didn’t work out for him.Peter Howey played at Pompey,played the season in the reserves after signing from Huddersfield.
