Brought up subject before we need more ex players becoming refs

A reason given by most is they don't fancy doing parks football but it is the best way to educated yourself and let's be fair mistakes there are less likely to cause to many issues as they say you learn by your mistakes

Yes agree. Even at grassroots level (Newport & District league etc) we need former players to take up the whistle as they make the best officials and teams respect them more.

We've got some fine young referees, guys and girls, coming through the ranks in South Wales. But I find they've got the fitness levels plus a sound knowledge of the laws but sometimes lack a bit of common sense or won't use their discretion.

Certainly I've been on the line In Welsh league for years and middle for division 3 but find that a lot of younger refs bring the cards out to easily I always go out thinking right I'm leaving the cards alone today and try and manage the game they are your last resort

But some younger refs are like robots
