He'll be available the end of season. Championship sides are not going to bid now if he's out of contract in the summer. All County can do to make themselves attractive to Twine when he's out of contract is get promoted and offer the promise of regular first team football. And have a Plan B, which is either sign or loan a similar player to Twine for the second half of this season that hpefully have a similar impact.

Sorry you've gone but County move on...

I don't agree that he won't be sold because Championship sides won't be interested. Simply because his price remains constant. With a year left on his contract Twine gets 20% of his worth Swindon 80%. With six months left it's Swindon getting 40%. Twine 60%. In June Scott pockets the lot.

Now what would you do in his situation?

Won't Swindon be able to claim a compensation payment under Bosman if he wants to move when his contract is up? IIUC all they have to do come the summer is offer him a deal no worse than his current one.

It's good for them if they are happy to take the risk offering him a deal that he may well accept and then they'd be stuck with a player they do not want, taking up a wage. A lot of clubs apparently lose out on money that way as they won't offer the player a deal.

Sorry I didn't make my point clearly. Even if Swindon attempt to sell him to another club Twine can refuse the offer any club makes to him and run down his contract. That's exactly what almost 100% of people would do in his situation. And the reason he can do this is that he knows that one club would be interested in his signature in the summer. And he's young enough not to worry too much about the size of that contract because as long as he doesn't pick up a serious injury in the next couple of years (and he progresses to become a Championship standard player or above) then the big pay days are still to come.

If have no doubt Swindon will not be getting any money for Twine (or a relatively piddling amount claiming they "developed" him). But whether he'll think in the summer that the offer that'll come from County will be the best for him is another matter...

Twine in the starting line-up for Swindon tonight so if I understand the rules correctly that means if he went to any other club he couldn't actually play for them this season. Suggests he is therefore at Swindon for the rest of the season and then out of contract so will have plenty of options in the summer.

Yep that's right. If Twine kicks a ball for Swindon he can't play for a third team this season.

Swindon will get some compensation if he leaves in the summer, but it'll be a tiny sum unless they offer him an equal or improved new contract before June. When or if he's a free agent then he can leave without a fee except a new club compensating Swindon for his youth development. He can command higher wages because there will be no transfer fee for any new club to pay. He can also open pre-contract talks with any other club from January.

Our best bet, seeing as we want him to return, is to hope that he doesn't fit into Swindon's style of play or he becomes only a bit-part player and we can pursue him in the summer.
