Has anyone else noticed how Cook's form has fallen off a cliff ever since Pietersen was exiled from the setup? Could be coincidence of course, but I get the impression that his presence gave more confidence to the team than anyone ever gave him credit for. He would have smashed Cook's records if he hadn't been thrown to the wolves.

In other cricket news :-
South Africa beat Zimbabwe in two days by an innings and 120 runs ! That's impressive whoever you're playing.

Now come on Exile!
Zimbabwe probably had to get a bus to bring them and borrow a few quid for a
beer...
Hardly a contest

How many teams have won a test match inside two days by an innings and over 100 runs? Not many I bet, regardless of the opposition, that is good going.
To score enough runs and take 20 wkts to win by that amount in less than 180 ovs you don't think is pretty impressive???

Carry on batting.....hope to see out the first ball then declare.... that would really pee off the Aussie openers by giving them 10 minutes to get ready between innings

I was never any good at cricket- far to many variables. The experts say that the wicket should dictate that whoever bats last could be disadvantaged.

Problem is, if England get out early, then Australia post a massive say 400 score in the day, it could be curtains for England in their last innings.

I know it's the last wicket but shouldn't England just go for the highest score possible, even if it means the draw is more likely? It's not as though it's going to cost them the Ashes is it?

We need to avoid a 5-0 whitewash so bat on to get past 500. The fact that it's the last pair means they probably won't bat long anyway. Why couldn't Cook do this earlier, like the first test and give them a close series.
