Answer : Margaret Thatcher, like her predecessor governments, closed coal mines because they were uneconomic tax guzzlers and the unions were preventing the opening up of new energy sources which could benefit the British people and the economy. ... She has been attacked for taking on the coal miners union.

Unions were strengthened because of the Miners. Central Government had to in force Nazi rule? Crush the Miners like the Catholics, then the ruskies!

The Labour government's talked to the Union first the pits they closed where uneconomic and at the end of their lives

Thatcher wanted to crush the unions end of that's the real answer

There is still a vast coal reserve under our country wasted
