The New Saints fell to a 5-0 defeat against Macedonian champions KF Shkëndija in the first leg of their Champions League first qualifying round tie.
How much do you think they will make from their appearance in this competition ?
Re: TNS champions league
2Every domestic champion club that does not qualify for the group stage will receive a solidarity payment of €260,000 in addition to the amounts due for participation in the qualifying rounds (which only teams not qualifying for the group stage are entitled to): €220,000 (for the first qualifying round). €320,000 (for the second), €420,000 (for the third; for eliminated sides only). Clubs going out in the play-offs pick up their first and second round payments, plus the abovementioned €260,000 .
So at least €480,000 ... Not too bad at all.

Re: TNS champions league
3Are TNS a full-time professional squad, and would anyone know what their playing budget would be?

Yes they are, no I don't. As at May 2016 they were the ONLY full time pro team in the Welsh League. Not sure if any others have gone full time since
edit:- just found this statement from Jan 2017 :-
"As the only full-time club in the 12-team Welsh Premier League, TNS operate with the biggest annual wage budget (£500,000 for their players and staff) and, as a result, there is a degree of scepticism among some about their winning run".
Re: TNS champions league
5So it would seem that their champions league qualifying round appearance would almost pay for their wage budget
Re: TNS champions league
6That's what I was wondering, I think that they were bankrolled (a bit like FGR) but now seem to be self sufficient, good luck to them in the next leg, 6-0 to TNS ?
Re: TNS champions league
7That's how Barry Town operated until TNS came along almost killing off 3 clubs in the process for what benefit to football in Wales?
Re: TNS champions league
8I went to their home tie last year when they lost at home to the champions of the mighty San Marino.
The entire setup is a complete and utter joke and a total embarrassment to Welsh football.
The fact that European opposition think this is the best our country has to offer is just silly.
The Welsh League should feed into the English system.

Re: TNS champions league
9Thing is, unless they make it into the football league they'll earn more money simply qualifying for the Champions League year in year out
Re: TNS champions league
10To be fair, the fifth best team in English football qualify for Europe as well.
Re: TNS champions league
11Also Connors Quay Nomads? Don't they play on the banks of the Dee in a rec...? Do they seriously get lots of Euros as well?
Re: TNS champions league
12Not as much and they look like going out early too after losing 3-1 at home last night.
Their own ground looks from TV like Spytty when it first opened, I'm guessing they took the tie to Wrexham.
Edit: It was played at Rhyl.

Unfortunately, this IS the best on offer from the Welsh League
Re: TNS champions league
14TNS won the second (home) leg 4v 0 so lost out on aggregate 4 v 5. I note the Irish teams did no better than the Welsh teams.
