Grandstand - Cambridge Away

1
Matches between both clubs since County returned to the FL in 2013:

2014 / 2015:
Newport County 1-1 Cambridge Utd.
County dominated this early season encounter.
Cambridge took the lead early in the second half and despite County being dominant throughout, they couldn't find a way through.
Robbie Willmott got the equalizer at the death against one of his former clubs. I can still picture him going over to the Cambridge supporters celebrating.

Cambridge Utd 4-0 Newport County.
County were in third place prior to this game and this was the first of four successive defeats once the future of Justin Edinburgh's reign as County manager became known. He left County three weeks after this match to take over as manager of Gillingham. Two goals either side of the break saw Cambridge win this mid season match comfortably and put them in mid table. This was only a second defeat in fifteen matches.

2015 / 2016:
Cambridge Utd 3-0 Newport County.
This was the opening league game of the season and Terry Butcher's first league game in charge. He was in charge until defeat in the tenth league game of the season, accumulating just five points.
A goal midway in the first half and two further goals, including two for Barry Corr, won this easy for Cambridge.

Newport County 0-1 Cambridge Utd.
The games only goal came midway through the second half.
With just five games remaining, County were in 21st position while Cambridge were mid table.

2016 / 2017:
Newport County 1-2 Cambridge Utd.
County were ahead at the break with a goal from on loan Cardiff Striker Rhys Healey.
Ex County Winger Medy Elito assisted one of Cambridge's goals.
Both teams remained in the bottom two after 8 / 9 games.

Cambridge Utd 3-2 Newport County.
Desperate for points, County took the lead just before the break and went two up after fifty seven minutes, both scored by Ryan Bird, his first goals for the club.
With around nineteen minutes remaining, Cambridge were level.
It appeared County had earned a point but Mitch Rose conceded a late penalty and was sent off. Joe Day saved the penalty but Mark Roberts scored.

2017 / 2018:
Newport County 2-0 Cambridge Utd.
FA Cup Round Two.
Joss Labadie scored both goals, one either side of the break. He would have missed this game had a red card recently shown not been recinded.
The draw paired County with Leeds for Round Three.

Cambridge Utd 1-2 Newport County.
A first league victory for County over Cambridge in seven attempts.
Shawn McCoulsky put County ahead shortly before the break.
Cambridge leveled during the fourth quarter. It appeared a draw was on the cards until a save by the Cambridge keeper rebounded off Labadie's chest and into the net late in injury time.
County were now ninth midway through the season and Cambridge were mid table.

Newport County 2-1 Cambridge Utd.
Goals either side of the break from Demetriou and Nouble put County two up before Cambridge scored in the final ten minutes.
This was only the third time that County had achieved the league double over Cambridge.

2018 / 2019:
Cambridge Utd 1-4 Newport County.
League Cup Round One.
Two first half goals from Amond gave County a comfortable half time lead.
Further goals from Matt and Semenyo, his first for the club, won this match comfortable before Cambridge scored a very late penalty by Azeez, currently on loan with County.

Newport County 4-2 Cambridge Utd.
County trailed 2-0 after twenty one minutes. A late penalty just before the break from Demetriou followed by second half goals from Amond and two from Matt won this comfortable enough eventually.
County were now second after ten games while Cambridge were twentieth.

Great result this to be fair. Looks to me like we're playing for 7th though, along with pretty much everyone else in the top 12!

You never know, but I have a feeling our GD could end up being our downfall. It's a point less at this stage.

So long as it keeps the interest levels up though, we should have some big crowds to end the season with.
