Saturday

Flynny must be over the moon after last night.
Maybe 20 players now pushing for a start.
With 2 draws will he be tempted to change things
Townsend has to be pushing.
OB a cert maybe.
Does anybody know how many fans made the trip?
Crazy that a few will not even make the bench Saturday and a few didn't even make the bench last night.
Potential for very good season ahead for us all.
Keep fit everyone

Last night showed that we actually have what amounts to a complete shadow team. I wonder how much the Gillingham management were suckered into thinking that we would play a substantially inferior eleven. Must admit I was surprised by the quality of our play especially in the second half.

Does the fact that the 3-5-2 was abandoned after 29 minutes mean that Flynn won't try it again or could he be tempted to try O'Brien-Howkins-Demetriou as a back three?

The other thing of interest is that (first choice striker) Amond now has 2 goals and (third choice) Abrahams 1 goal and has converted the winning penalty in a penalty shoot-out. So how long will Flynn give (second choice) Matt to get off the mark? :)

Well if Matt was the penalty taker it might be Amond that would be under pressure.

True enough that Amond's goals so far have been penalties. I like to see strikers get off the mark as early as possible. It's no guarantee that they will score loads during the season, merely that they have got off the mark (and possibly will stop worrying about not getting off the mark). The ideal would be for Matt to score on Saturday so that you have three scoring strikers competing for two starting places - almost that if you don't produce you end up on the bench and the one on the bench gets an opportunity.

Obviously there is a counter-argument that such a system could induce three strikers that play greedily - not passing to their playing partner and attempting speculative shots to try and get the goal that keeps them in the side.

Life is imperfect...

Plymouth will be one of the toughest tests this season with a manager who achieved automatic promotion with Bury and bringing in 5 of his ex. players and keeping most of Plymouths best players from last season the Pilgrim's will be sailing up the League and get promoted.
Flynn likes to keep the same eleven as much as possible ie. against Mansfield but imho we need much more pace upfront and in midfield I would start with Whitely and the Charlton loanee in midfield along with Bennett for defensive reasons. O'Brien and Demetriou at centre back. So 4 changes from our last home game. Townsend deserves to start ? Maybe five ?

So in a 4-4-2 you'd keep only one of Labadie, Sheehan and Dolan?
