Will look him up on wiki after posting this...Cheers
You got that wrong.
He wasn't average he was hopeless.
Would make my worst County side ever.

18Yep, checked him out on wiki and perhaps he liked his beer more than his footy.Frank Nouble 3 wrote:Coxy.Coxy wrote:Colin Sinclair...A striker we signed in the late 70s. He'd done okay previously for Darlington but don't recall him doing much for us. Not sure whatever happened to him.....

20I loved Minshull, what an absolute unit that guy was.pembsexile wrote:The tank. Lee Minshull. Very strong and good at our level. Can't really say that he should have played in a higher league and I think he dropped into lower leagues after he left us. I enjoyed watching him and he always did a shift. Not the most talented of players but very strong. One of the best 'average' County players I have seen. No idea where he is now.

21He went part time so that he could go back to being a Quantity Surveyor. I still keep an eye out for him on twitternjbh86 wrote:I loved Minshull, what an absolute unit that guy was.pembsexile wrote:The tank. Lee Minshull. Very strong and good at our level. 22Stuart James - Average footballer but outstanding reporter. Probably one of the best in the business right now. My memory of James the footballer seems to be him running down the wing and forgetting to cross the ball!

When he was at Liverpool they rated him as one of the best youngsters they had ever had ( that was according to an article in the Match Of The Day Annual 1976 that I found in my attic and was reading a few weeks ago )

24The scousers said that about Tommy Tynan as well. Unfortunately he just didn’t have the pace to go with it. Their loss, our gain.neilcork68 wrote:Special branch wrote:Steve Warriner

Re: The Most Average Newport County Players
25Not sure if average or anonymous with this one, anyone remember Lawrence Osbourne, played midfield in final league season.I say played but,I can't remember him touching the ball much, even though he had a decent run in the side.He just seemed to on the pitch and not doing much.
Re: The Most Average Newport County Players
27Ray Bishop. Couldn’t stop scoring for Cardiff. Distinctly average (ie. a shadow of the player he was) for us.
Re: The Most Average Newport County Players
28We've wound up discussing poor players. IMHO average = someone who is good enough to play regularly without you necessarily noticing his contribution. So of the current squad Bennett, from years ago Gary Thorne.
Re: The Most Average Newport County Players
29Ooh, I think that's harsh on Bennett. Of the current crop there's another midfielder who regularly escapes my notice for the first 30 minutes of each game.
I wondered about Neil Bailey. He was the water carrier in a talented midfield and always seemed to be made scapegoat by the crowd on County off-days.

Re: The Most Average Newport County Players
30I see it as praise, he often operates under the radar. It's a paradox, but before you can be rated for your averageness, you have to be un-average enough to get picked regularly.
How about Tom Miller?
