M4 Relief Road

1
Has anyone with half a brain from the Welsh Government been anywhere near Newport today and seen the absolute chaos an accident/fire on the motorway has caused ??
How can they justify the spending of over £100 million on a road that they have now turned down and not laid 1mm of tarmac ???

If Newport doesnt need a new motorway / relief motorway I would love to see what ludicrous ideas they come up with as an alternative.

I have seen one MP say that traffic should be using the heads of the valleys road as an alternative if they are travelling from the midlands to west of Swansea....This road is a joke too..£100 million over budget, two years behind schedule and still one section to complete through Merthyr that hasnt even been started yet ???
the 4 sections out of the 5 they are widening have taken almost 20 years to complete and the new section will take another 4 at least.
Public Transport is about 50 years behind where it should be...Will the electrification of the rail line ever start ?
The power lines are up but the trains havent been built yet. They have run out of money so they wont be going as far as Swansea as well with the electrification .....
Will this Metro system they talk about ever happen ????

How many more years has Newport and South East Wales have to put up with this chaos ???

Section 2 ( the one they are working     on now is two years behind schedule and over £100 million over budget..
The planning bids for section 5 have only just been mentioned as putting out to tender so thats 2 years for the bids to be put in , two years for the Welsh government to scrutinise then 5 years to complete ( unless they hit any unseen problems like they have in section 2...) then two years arguing who is paying for these ' unseen problems....like they are now

Dont hold your breath that that will be the answer to the M4 problems

All the while businesses lose millions with all the hold ups because the M4 is gridlocked

Wales had help from the EU for this and other road developements but,UK voted for Brexit so the money must come from elsewhere, where exactly who knows.

I don't see any other solution that's going to happen any quicker

Agree totally.
A bunch of dunderheads and 1/2 wits in the Welsh government.
This is why Wales is a laughing stock.
Perhaps we should of voted Tory like they did up north.
This is what you get for all those fools who voted for a devolved Welsh government years ago.
Build the M4 relief road on raised pillars its only for 10-15 miles. This would have minimum affect on the toads at Llanwern.
Look at bridges around the world all on pillars.
The Chinese wouldn’t of had this problem the road would be built within a year.
As for the metro system the Welsh government haven’t created anything new all they have done is create a London Underground style map of the existing bus and train routes.
Transport routes in Wales are a joke.
You never see Newport MPs bringing it in the House of Commons.
If I was in business I wouldn’t relocate to South Wales

For the time they 'debated' whether or not we should have the relief road they could have built it.
£100million buying house and land on the routes in preparation , going to committee after committee to debate the pros and cons, not 1 mm of tarmac laid then they turn it down without having a back up plan ready, and they say its good business ...Only a Politician could think that way
Parliment has said the money to build the road has been ring fenced so where will that disappear to ???
never mind their 50mph speed limit they want to set from Jct 24 to 28 will help ....

The road through the old LLanwern sit was a possible solution but that bottlenecks at Spytty so is a definite non starter.
the SDR has not proved any good as an accident or breakdown on there makes it a non starter too as it goes through Spytty.

Only in Britain...Countries like China would have had it built and in use 5 years ago and not worried about a few toads. they would have built it on stilts above the 'sacred wetlands' or a tunnelled under it

Referring to the regularly congested Brynglas tunnels in Newport, Mr Johnson said: "Let's unblock the nostrils of the Welsh dragon with the Vicks inhaler of one-nation Welsh Conservative can-do spirit."

Drakeford and his predecessor did / are doing a great job sorting out the mess aren't they ?
£100 million+ has been spent on what ?? We are still having to put up with the mess that accidents , breakdowns etc cause and the Motorway is at a standstill for hours...costing businesses millions in losses...

Motorway. - not fit for purpose. We pay a fortune in Road Tax . Where does this money go ???
Railway - as above due to years of under investment..Prices increase but does the service ???
Roads around Gwent. - as above but full of potholes. Is it 10% of the budget kept aside to pay for litigation claims because they are so poorly maintained ???

Millions of pounds spent but we are going backwards in infrastructure in this Country..
Even the Heads of the valleys road they are 'updating' will be outdated within a decade as they have only dualled it not made it three lanes to cope with the increased traffic volume. If a car or lorry breaks down between Abergavenny and Brynmawr up the hill it will come to a standstill as there is no hard shoulder , no laybys etc...bad planning IMO
