The missing piece of the jigsaw will be postponement of the Euros next Tuesday. That will allow the season to be restarted after a month's break and run through to the end of May. The FA will have no need to put up `keep off the grass' signs on Wembley. Playoffs could be in early June.

It might have been a simple but smart move by the government not to interfere yesterday. It was obvious where this was heading but they allowed the football authorities to make the decision and appear to take the moral high ground. There would have been some, probably a minority, who would have shouted their disapproval if it had been a government decision but will nod their heads in agreement now, and say it was an obvious decision to make.

How can that be? England play three matches on it from June 13th, then it has the semi finals and final. They surely won't kill the surface with matting and 50,000 people stomping on it?
Perhaps they'll shift the playoff finals to other venues. Wouldn't be ideal, but needs must.

I think that your analysis is spot on.

FAW has suspended football at all ages/levels until April 4th

Correct. Would think there would be insufficient time between an extended 2019/20 season and the start of the 2020/21 season in August for a new pitch to be laid. Normally time is of the essence for a new pitch to be laid and bed in and takes the full 3 months normally available May to July. Playing this football season into June will surely prevent a new surface going down, having said that the Dragons are due to be playing the Blues at RP at the end of May so may be possible if the football ends early June. WRU / Dragons / County have been discussing a new pitch based on not starting the work until after the last Dragons game after all.

And just been announced that the Wales v Scotland rugger at the Principality stadium is OFF too

Grass will not grow where their is no grass to start with.
Some areas of the pitch are now purely sand.
When the pitch was last laid we played away games first also to give the pitch more time.

You're probably right, I hadn't considered it being an entirely new pitch. I wonder if the 20/21 season might start in September.
