It is a 'need to have' - a replacement position. This role is the communication specialist for social media, match day events, programmes, contact for all print, radio, TV, on-line media etc...

I don’t think so. I’d have applied if so, as it’s my field.

Something tells me it may have switched from a proper post to a voluntary/unpaid role...
He was voluntary last season.
I don't doubt you but how do you know this? And do you know whether or not he is now being paid? And in any event do you know whether the post was advertised?

Completely no idea regarding whether the role is paid or it was advertised Stan. There was a post on Twitter I think from the man himself saying he volunteered last season.

And here is the problem.

A new media manager is employed, whilst perhaps the best player Newport County have does not have his contract renewed.

Now all of the following statements could be true. And to be clear I don't know which of the following is true.

A) The new media manager is highly experienced in this field. He is a devoted follower of Newport County who has volunteered in the past and is doing this job without renumeration.

B) As above save that the club advertised for someone to undertake this role. An effective media manager, doing the job without financial reward.

C) As above. However this is a job like any other. He was the best candidate. And is rightly being paid for his efforts.

D) The job was not advertised. It is a salaried role. The new media manager happened to be looking into his crystal ball and noticed that County needed a media manager. He contacted the club. Wow thought the directors, that's saved us the cost of an advert in the press.

E) The new media manager knows somebody at the club. Jobs for the boys.

Take your pick. Believe what you will.

or..

F) The previous Media Manager left after a short time, the BoD already had this new person's details from the last recruitment process and wanted a smooth transition?

Possibly. I have to say I don't recall the job ever being advertised.

However my point is that such is the secrecy of the Politburo, that we will never know.
