Re: Police lives matter

Too right, these are men and women who put their lives on the line preventing crime and ensuring we can live our own lives reasonably safely and freely, and all for what is often a wage not much above the minimum wage level.

There should be legislation permitting mandatory life sentences without parole for anyone above the age of criminal responsibility who kills or seriously injures any frontline emergency workers.

The shocking killing of a Police Officer in Croydon last night also shows the tricky balance between searching those arrested 'at the scene' (where doing so could endanger public safety or inflame other tensions) and taking them quickly into custody, with Officers having to consider covid risks throughout all this.

My sincere symathies to this brave Officer's family and colleagues.
