Accrkngton game called off already because of a frozen pitch surely should have waited till tomorrow

Depends. If they have tested and found it frozen 1 inch down, and the weather is going to remain near freezing point until the afternoon, then it makes sense to be sensible and not waste a lot of peoples time and effort.

Suppose it doesn't matter if there's no fans, but why oh why do the FA arrange matches like this at holiday times? Surely they could have arranged a nearer opponent for both, but then again who cares about the fans!

It's a round trip of more than 500 miles through Tier 4 territory, can't blame them for being cautious if there's any doubt about the pitch.
