Paddy Power are running an advertising campaign in Ireland at the moment, donating 10,000 Euro for every goal the Ruskies score in the tournament to a gay rights organization.
Bet they didn't see that one coming.

17Wonderful line from a pundit.
'Saudi Arabia, it doesn't look good for them.' I guess it's that type of insight which most of us on this board lack.

Re: Apparently there's a football tournament in Russia
19That Saudi 'keeper must have had a bet on 5-0. His attempt to save that free kick was pure comedy.
Re: Apparently there's a football tournament in Russia
20You can almost guarantee that some sort of oil deal was agreed during that fixture !!!
I've drawn Russia in the sweepstake at work ..
Along with ....... Brazil !!!

21Game 2. Egypt v Uruguay.
Salah only on the bench.
Hopefully the Egyptians haven’t overdone their Eid celebrations.

22I met Uruguay’s coach once. I say “met” but in truth he walked past me in a hotel lobby. He was with Batistuta, who would’ve been my man crush had he not stunk of BO.
Re: Apparently there's a football tournament in Russia
23Plenty of unoccupied seats in Yekaterinburg. Both teams have had efforts on goal. Uruguay, in their away kit for reasons I don’t understand, look better than Egypt in a lackadaisical kind of way. Egypt, despite having all the composure of a golden retriever on a unicycle, seem markedly stronger than the Saudis did yesterday.
0-0 at half-time.
0-0 at half-time.
Re: Apparently there's a football tournament in Russia
24The ref seems to have either a gumshield or dummy attached to his whistle. He’s done well, though both teams have “played nice”.
89th minute. Uruguay, having got through a bad patch where they may well have conceded against less limited opponents, first rattle the woodwork from a free-kick then score from a corner. 1-0.
Five minutes added time.

Re: Apparently there's a football tournament in Russia
25No way back for Egypt. 1-0 final score, though with Russia and Saudi in the group, and Salah still to come into the side, they’ve still a decent chance.

26Game 3. Morocco v Iran. St Petersburg looks mighty fine.
Itv’s commentor reckons the Turkish ref is a little bit of a psycho (or, to put it another way, he’s a regular Turkish bloke).
Morocco kick off. The crowd noise is strangely echoey.
