I’ve personally not seen any of the new lads play, but on paper they all sound very good signings.
I think leadbitter could be the best out of the lot and I’m looking forward to seeing what he brings to the team. With his experience and the fact he can fill in a few positions he may well turn out to be a great bit of business

2Do we know yet if he gets a three-game ban for the straight red card in Spain? Or if it was played behind closed doors does that mean no referee's report went in?
Re: New signings - who are you most pleased with
3Currently there is nothing showing for him on the FA website, unlike O'Brien.
Re: New signings - who are you most pleased with
4Best signing for me was Mickey. But of the new faces I'm hopeful that Whitely will add a bit of unpredictability to our play and chip in with some much needed goals outside of the front two.

5Red cards in friendlies don't tend to lead to suspensions unless it's something extraordinary so it should be fine. After all, whose jurisdiction does it fall under?George Street-Bridge wrote:Do we know yet if he gets a three-game ban for the straight red card in Spain? 6Answering the original question, too early to really say but I'm quite excited about Ryan Haynes if he can live up to what he looked like as a youngun at Coventry. Whitely sounds promising and Abrahams looks a good fit for us on paper.
And keeping Labs around was enormous.
Leadbitter sounds good on paper but a real concern with him would be his injury record, a lot of hamstring trouble the last few years and he's no use to us on the treatment table. Hopefully we can manage his minutes well and keep him healthy.

7The game against the Egyptians must have come under the Spanish FA. I think I read that the ref sent two players off and then blew for full-time, which suggests it wasn't a game under the normal protocols.
Re: New signings - who are you most pleased with
8From what I've seen (Shrewsbury game and video highlights) Whitely looks the most exciting of the new players.
Of the ones likely to be in our regular starting XI, King looks an adequate replacement for Day, Leadbitter looks better going forward than Poole but has similar frailties in defence and wasn't tested in the air against Shrews, Haynes who knows until he plays?

My view is that 'who knows?' applies to all of them until they play in competitive games.
Re: New signings - who are you most pleased with
10I think all of the signings sound good on paper. But I have only seen two of them (v Chelsea U23's). Lazar was played as a LB, which may not be his best position and probably showed that it wasn't his best position. The word "determined" seems appropriate description. Marvel seemed to play as a left winger and did a few nice things but is in fairness probably still adjusting to being a full time professional. Too early to judge would be fair to attach to him.
Re: New signings - who are you most pleased with
11Of all the new players I saw against Shrewsbury, Marvel is the one who looked least ready for L2.

12You might be right. One little word of caution in 1932 a very young lad played two games for Stoke City. An unknown local newspaper reporter wrote that 'X....... clearly lack the ability to make a career in the professional game.'Amberexile wrote:Of all the new players I saw against Shrewsbury, Marvel is the one who looked least ready for L2.
Go on, make a guess.

15Hi Paul, I wasn't making a dig at your post, apologies if it seemed that way, merely pointing out that opinions are just that and we are all prone, and I certainly include myself in this, to being spectacularly wrong. And yes Mike, it was the other great Stanley.Amberexile wrote:Stan A. Einstein wrote:You might be right. One little word of caution in 1932 a very young lad played two games for Stoke City.
