Newport County v Macclesfield Town.
County face another test against a lowly placed team in the table. Counties record this season against the low placed teams is poor. Of the current bottom five clubs, only five points have been gained, thanks to a very fortunate victory over Carlisle at Rodney Parade. Infact, that victory over Carlisle is, to date, Countys only league victory this season against the current bottom nine clubs. Macclesfield, who've had six points deducted and are currently sitting in twenty second position, are not to be taken easy. Despite their low position, their latest three league results / scorelines are impressive.
1. Colchester 2-1 Macclesfield - Colchester are undefeated in their latest fifteen league matches, are in fifth position and one of their goals in this game was an OG. 2. Macclesfield 1-1 Crewe - Crewe are among the top group in the table and it took a goal deep into injury time 90+5 by them to avoid defeat.
3. Macclesfield 2-1 Forest Green - Forest Green are just outside the play-off positions. Macclesfield equalized on seventy four minutes and then, despite having a player sent off with around eleven minutes remaining, scored again and gained the three points.
Meetings between the two clubs:
Conference Premier:
2012 / 2013:
Macclesfield 1-1 Newport County:
A goal shortly before the break from Tony James gave County a half time advantage.
Striker Matthew Barnes-Homer equalized for the Silkmen with around ten minutes remaining.
Newport County 4-1 Macclesfield:
This re-arranged meeting was played on a very wet Thursday evening.
Macclesfield took the lead in the first five minutes before County were ahead 3-1 at the break with goals from Jolley, a penalty from Sandell and a third from Willmott.
Willmott got his second of the game midway through the second half and the ref blew for full time moments into injury time as a heavy shower teemed down.
League Two:
2018 / 2019:
Newport County 3-3 Macclesfield:
Macclesfield, who were bottom before this game with just three points from ten games, were two up within eleven minutes. Butler got one back on the half hour mark before Demetriou leveled the score near the hour from the penalty spot. Macclesfield went in front again with their second penalty of the game with less than ten minutes on the clock. Defeat appeared on the cards until Matt equalized deep into injury time. Ten players were booked by referee Trevor Kettle who is possibly the worst performing referee i've witnessed at Rodney Parade in a game involving County.
Macclesfield 0-0 Newport County:
A poor result for County. They were now in 11th position, two points behind seventh placed Exeter but three clubs above them via goal difference.
A very valuable point for Macclesfield in their quest to avoid the drop, now two points clear of relegation with two to play..
2019 / 2020:
Macclesfield 1-1 Newport County:
After a positive start with Amond putting County ahead in the first minute, former County midfielder Emmanuel Osadebe equalized around nineteen minutes.
Managers:
Macclesfield - Mark Kennedy
Newport County - Mike Flynn.
Head to head:
No meetings as yet.
Some players who played for both County and Macclesfield are:
Emmanuel Osadebe
Jon Parkin
Reece Cole

2Gnahoua who looked good against us in the away game scored a blinder on Saturday.
Re: Grandstand - Macclesfield at Rodney Parade
3Full back sent off in that match for chopping down Aaron Collins when he was through on goal. Probably turned out to be a match winning contribution.

6Thanks for the reminder. Had forgotten about that. Believe he had a bit of a thing for Sheila Ferguson? but sadly had to settle to Camilla instead.neilcork68 wrote:OLDCROMWELLIAN wrote:I notice that temperature forecast for 3 degrees tomorrow night? We know what that could mean!
