Yes that did cross my mind. Said I should fall through a stupid tree for stating facts about C19 spread at 3 sporting events.

Then made the stupidest comment I read last year comparing UK and ROI infection rates.
According to the ONS, 9 out of 10 death certificates state Covid as the cause of death.
'The' cause, or 'a' cause? There are often primary and secondary causes recorded on death certificates.

EDIT: could you post a link to the source of that statistic?

What? So people are barley dying of any other reason? This is getting surreal now!

Not sure of ‘the’ or ‘a’ cause.

The link is on the main BBC news website today. They are quoting ONS statistics from a graph. Can’t do the link, sorry. Said there was something like 104,000 deaths, that is the story on the BBC news page.

Then blame the ONS. Or the Doctors.

It relates to deaths registered in the most recent week that statistics are available. About nine in 10 death certificates citing coronavirus registered Covid as the cause of death.

EDIT:
The Office for National Statistics and its counterparts in Scotland and Northern Ireland registered 7,776 deaths with coronavirus on the death certificate in the most recent week.

That figure is obviously not far out for the following reason. I have tabulated figures from the start and with “ deaths after 28 days who have tested positive “ standing at 100k according to YouGov figures , then obviously “ those with Covid on the Death Certificate “ which include those who never were hospitalised must be a higher figure, I’d say 110k is bound to be nearer the mark.

Please Gavin Foxhall will you just withdraw your support for this letter? To have signed it I can accept as a mistake. However, not to withdraw the support of Newport County for this crass piece of bog paper is a stain on our club.
There have not been 104, 000 EXCESS deaths. Excess deaths have been small this winter compared to last spring. Please look at the facts as many people would have died as they do every winter. Most were nosocomial.

Seriously losing it now. Mistake after mistake.
While I disagree entirely with Stan's somewhat hysterical response to the letter (I think it's perfectly acceptable for the sports industry to lobby government in the same way other sectors have), he is right re excess deaths. The figure for the UK since March is just over 100,000 excess deaths (deaths over & above a five-year average) as of January 8.
No, it's not.

Yes indeed, that’s the trouble with figures. The loss of each of those lives is a tragedy. They all had loved ones, hopes and dreams never to be realised and many well before their time. There were many who gave their lives selflessly in caring of the sick. RIP
