Of course only time will tell about the size of re-build before next season, and don't disagree with your comments, but simply cannot forsee sufficient money being made available for a large re-build. Anyone who thinks HJ will be digging deep into his personal pocket, will I believe, be sadly disillusioned. For a start he doesn't possess deep pockets. Remember his success at Swansea started with financial backing from a consortium, not just himself; plus considerable backing from the local council. As far as I'm aware, there's no prospect of that in the short term. Maybe some, but certainly not all, of this years cup monies may be added to the budget for next season.lowandhard wrote: April 7th, 2024, 4:54 pmIt appears the same to me. How can you be on a pitch for so long with so little involvement?Exile 1976 wrote: April 6th, 2024, 6:18 pm Jephcott was completely anonymous. Rai, whilst not being anywhere near the finished article, would have put in more of a shift that he did. Jephcott has been a big ol’ waste of money.
As regards the squad, I happen to think that Coughlan has done miracles with a poor team and it needs a bigger re-build than is immediately apparent. I think repeating this season’s relative success will be impossible with this group. No strength in depth and too many average or “ made of glass “ personnel. Also a total lack of creativity imo. Sadly, that means a bigger clearout than what is normally regarded as healthy.
That probably means an interesting summer but as the Chinese say, “ pity the child born in interesting times! “
For those reasons I'm not expecting what I would count as a major rebuild. Foresee the biggest changes coming from 5 different loanees, rather than players contracted to Newport County.
