Newport County AFC are delighted to announce the arrival of Adam Lewis, who joins the club on a loan deal from Liverpool.

The 22-year-old left-back made his first-team debut for the Reds in an FA Cup tie against Shrewsbury in February 2020, with Adam playing the full 90 minutes in a 1-0 Liverpool win.

In the summer of 2020, Adam signed on loan at Ligue 2 outfit Amiens before returning to England and joining League One Plymouth, also on loan, in January 2021 where he made 20 appearances and scored once, in a 2-1 win at Sunderland.

Last season, he spent the entirety of the campaign on loan at Livingston and helped the club to 7th in the Scottish Premiership.

Adam has also earned himself international recognition with caps for England at Under-16, 17, 19 and 20 level, making 16 appearances across the age groups, including three games at the Under-19 Euros in 2018.

On the arrival of Adam, County manager James Rowberry said: “I’m delighted to welcome Adam to the club and I’m excited to see how his qualities will improve us as a team.

“I have no doubt that his experience at higher levels, as well as his international pedigree, will be a huge help to our processes to take the club forward.

“I know our supporters will give Adam a very warm welcome when they get the chance to see him!”

Welcome to Newport, Adam!

Looks like a good pedigree, that bit more experience than say Jake Cain from the same club. And he ended last season in Livingston's first team so it doesn't like one of those loans to help injury rehab. And we haven't had a reliable left back for a long time.

He's 23 in November, I don't see what Liverpool get from keeping young players on the books well into their 20s when you need to be world-class to get into the main squad.

Neither do I. Does anyone know when his contract with Liverpool comes to an end? It may be to all intents and purposes Liverpool have decided he will not make it as a player at Premier League level.

Not a criticism of the player, it goes without saying that now he has 'signed' for us I hope he does really well.

Yes I take your point in that Liverpool may have decided that he won't make it as a first team player now that he is in his early 20's.
Perhaps they think that if they can farm him out on loan for a few seasons and he can get a good reputation then possibly they can sell him and make some money from him. (Only my opinion).
Anyway like Stan says he's "on our books" for a while, so let's get behind him and hope he performs well for us.

I just wonder whether they wind up recouping their investment over maybe 10 years even if players with this sort of profile do eventually join an EFL club for a modest fee. Wages, all the ancillary costs that apply in any line of work, kit alone must be a big bill. Presumably they must and the proof is that these players do stay on the books into their 20s.

I mean, what now happens to a slightly younger player like Jake Cain? Jury must still be out on him making it in the ERL.
