Re: GRANDSTAND: Carlisle (home) match-day thread
47Most of the damage was self inflicted. Carlisle were quite poor but we matched them. Have to say the conditions in the second half must have made it an unpleasant playing experience. For the penalty, the ball was pinging all over the place and I couldn't see what had happened. Haynes committed his foul after the referee had already blown the whistle for a foul by Baker Richardson but he was probably already committed to the challenge. Some great saves by Joe in the last fifteen minutes, and two good goals by Telford.

48I remember once being given out of a bumped ball. Being a gentleman I walked. Perhaps Ed is likewise a gentleman. Unlike most of the riff raff on this board. Seriously though Jim, once the red card was shown that was it. Perhaps Upson simply has a brain.UPTHEPORT wrote: October 20th, 2021, 9:58 am As I said it's awkward to see unless the club did alternative view last night they sometimes do .

49Can't tell from the camera angle whether it was handball or not. However, the ref did take a long time to award the pen, not in itself a bad or incorrect thing but would have thought if he had a clear view then he would award the pen much quicker. Gives the impression that the ref was heavily influenced by the Carlisle players, most of whom didn't appeal initially. As others have said once the red card comes out what's the point in Upson protesting.
Re: GRANDSTAND: Carlisle (home) match-day thread
50Seems to me that there is a bit of revisionism going on/creeping in with some of the comments about Flynn and Telford.
Perhaps people should read Telford's own words, particularly the bit about hard graft required (especially on the pitch we suffered with after last Xmas).

51He guessed no doubt influenced by Carlisle appeals. If the camera doesn't show it then it's unlikely home fans in the Hazel would have a better viewGeorge Street-Bridge wrote: October 20th, 2021, 7:43 am I thought Upson headed it but from the slow-mo I'm not so sure and the ref had a better angle than the camera. Anyone watching from the Hazel terrace?

53It looks like his right hand is raised and extremely close to the ball but very difficult to tell...
As Jim has said, the reaction from Ed is telling unless he's one of the most mature footballers ever seen who doesn't rise to referee decisions being unjust... (I've yet to see one)

55Doubt it. Lino on the Bisley would be wrong side and wouldn't have been able to see Upson's hand and the other lino was too far away with a more restricted view through players than the ref. The ref guessed. Sometimes you win , sometimes you lose. 56Would have been pointless consulting the linesman on the Bisley side, he didn't spot anything all night - including things happening directly in front of him.
