I'm all for us being a club bigger clubs want to lend players to, but it has to be like when you interview someone for a job - the point is what they can do for you, not just what you can do for them. I can't believe we had that balance right when we signed Street. Palace now know he isn't up to EFL standard - no composure, doesn't anticipate, plays on his heels.
At this point I always group our squad into
- experienced players we can expect at least another season from in L2;
- emerging players who already look up to it and will improve;
- those whose best doesn't look like it will ever be good enough;
- good servants who are likely to go backwards.
A worrying number are in category 3 or 4, but the one positive from yesterday is even on his 30-minute cameo I'd put Bright firmly in the second group.
Re: Grandstand County v Rochdale
47I'm always loathe to call out poor individual performances, but I have to say Street is right up there with the worst players we have had since getting back into the league. That he was picked so regularly makes me concerned about Rowberry's judgement of what we need. Having him at the club surely must lift the blinkers about thinking Premier League youngsters indicate a measure of quality.
Re: Grandstand County v Rochdale
48Similar thoughts have occurred to me and JR's almost total absence of experience as a player has always bothered me when it comes to him dealing with very experienced players. But surely Hats could have had the manager's job if he had wanted it. It is a minor tragedy for us that he didn't. But a new manager that he could have looked up to might have helped.Taunton Iron Cider wrote: May 8th, 2022, 6:34 amLooking back, the turning point was the loss of Wayne Hatswell, he was the real strategic and experienced power behind the throne. Listening to Rowberry’s constant theoretical claptrap, makes me wonder if this was a catalyst to Wayne being receptive to Flynn’s offer of a sideways move. He probably also saw that under James his ambition to be in a higher league was never going to be achieved.lowandhard wrote: May 8th, 2022, 12:38 am Thanks Kevinmoorefellover for illustrating my criticisms so succinctly. A team and management that loses form so badly has a fatal flaw, such a series of results deserves proper explanation or remedy…
Still, as long as JR is learning eh?

49Our last 6 away matches yielded 13 points. That isn't mid table. It's promotion. Which is why I keep asking for an explanation as to why such a stark differential.County ranger wrote: May 8th, 2022, 9:36 amAnd the away form table? 51Should have said over twelve games not six mid table - agree with you away form is promotion level. It maybe the players struggle to handle the pressure of the larger home crowds or do away sides play more on the break which exposes our lack of pace in some areas?OLDCROMWELLIAN wrote: May 8th, 2022, 1:05 pmOur last 6 away matches yielded 13 points. Re: Grandstand County v Rochdale
52Not sure of your opinion on larger home crowds, they have only been up by about 500-1000 not that a massive increase.
So how did we win a cope with much larger away crowds at both Port Vale and Swindon?
I honestly don't know why our recent home performance has been so bad, but I don't think it is down to crowd size.
Perhaps away sides have sussed our home style of play out and relish playing on the best surface in the league?

Fair play to you. Both concepts seem logical to me and are more reasonable than some of the more extreme posts on here. Can understand supporters frustration and disappointment though. My observations tell me players were guilty of being more tentative and tense at home during the run in, than away. Not that the management can be exonerated from some degree of responsibility.County ranger wrote: May 8th, 2022, 3:41 pmShould have said over twelve games not six mid table - agree with you away form is promotion level.
