We already had Norman, Clarke, Demetriou and Lewis signed and while each is good enough on their day individually, as a collective our defense shipping too many goals was what cost us last season so somebody had to go to be able to improve through change. I think Haynes was unlucky on that count.
But with Haynes there was always the risk that he would get destroyed by a pacy winger and then be left out of the side as a result (I'm talking about Sutton at home). He also became a bit of a scaredy cat when he reached the halfway line when we needed a wing back to chase a game. Perhaps the problem was that he replaced Butler who was an expert in that role. An impossible act to follow.
