Jim, on most airlines these days you can do a check in online about 30 days before your departure date. It is worth doing as you can reserve your seats. They even do the passport checks online. You turn up at the airport with all your details and hand your luggage in at the desk. Still have to queue though. Some airlines even offer you to book your suitcases in the day before. Your hand luggage is walk on.

We are going to Florida in Apr, we are not flying until midday but we are staying overnight in Gatwick and have the option to book our suitcases in the night before. We will be doing that. I think the airlines do it as a means of stopping people having heavy luggage with them with the security issues that raises. That, and you can spend more time in the shop/bar. Enjoy your hols mate.

Have a great time. After a 4 year absence I’m back to Florida on hols in July. Thankfully flying from Heathrow for the first time though.

My Mrs is there at the moment with my sister. (Annual shindig) She says the weather is perfect. Too hot if anything, 24/25 ish. Glad you enjoyed it Jim.
