Interesting interview with Rai. Has he potentially another year in the academy, or will a decision on his future need to be made at the end of this season?
Re: Exiles Grandstand: Newport v Wimbledon
62Yes, seemed strange considering the referee blew for half time while the ball was out of play. Although I guess the player could well be in for am appearance bonus.Percy plunkett wrote: March 15th, 2023, 4:38 pm Being a bit of an anorak, did we see a new record last night.Their number 15 hobbled off at the end and number 5 came on,took his place in defence, the keeper took the goal kick and the ref blew for time.He was on for all of 5 seconds,so short that our website have him as a unused sub.Is there records kept for this I wonder,he would have it if there is.

63He is at the end of two year scholarship so contracts get awarded around March 25.Would expect him and Cadwalader to get young pro deals. Not sure what has happened to Sonny Lewis lately,he looked destined to come through as a 15/16 year old,not sure if he is injured or out of favour. We already have 5 young professionals,Woodiwiss seems to be out of favour,Twamley was brought back but also hasn’t made the 18 at all.Karadogan,Ovendale will also be sweating on a new deal.Would expect Bright to get an extension. The question is,how many young professionals can we afford if there is no proper Development squad.OLDCROMWELLIAN wrote: March 15th, 2023, 9:21 pmInteresting interview with Rai. 64Thanks for that. 67Great update , appreciate that , wondered what had happened to the two lads from Pontypridd, shame as both showed potential , Think Woodiwiss had a bad injury at Pontypridd so might be finished , Twamley not surePercy plunkett wrote: March 15th, 2023, 11:31 pmHe is at the end of two year scholarship so contracts get awarded around March 25.Would expect him and Cadwalader to get young pro deals. 68It is odd that GC was singing the praises of Twamley in December. He said that he would play him now if he could but would bring him back in January and he would be like a new signing. He hasn’t made the 18 at all so what has happened ?.Woodiwiss wasn’t in the Pontypridd team to start with so not sure if injury happened playing, training with them or training with us.I have watched both play in our academy and the Papa John games and both looked worthy of a chance in the first team. Not sure why they haven’t been involved, they are both very short so does GC think they lack the physicality to make it,who knows.

69He may have stood out at the level he was playing at. Since he had him back and sees him in training every day perhaps his opinion has changed and he deems him not good enough ?

70We all physically develop at different rates. Often at 16 to 19 a lad will stand out because he is simply stronger than those around him. When his peers develop he is no longer outstanding.neilcork68 wrote: March 20th, 2023, 8:57 am He may have stood out at the level he was playing at. A second problem is that many young men go off the rails in their late teens and early twenties. Girls and alcohol mainly. (Certainly the case with me.) Academically did doesn't much matter you can get back on the rails but in professional sport, not so much. Which is sad for those who have the talent and have a lifetime to reflect on blowing their God given gift.
And as Neil says, the manager sees him day in day out.
Re: Exiles Grandstand: Newport v Wimbledon
71As Ponty are part-timers my assumption is that he would still have been doing the bulk of his training with us, so I doubt Coughlan is seeing much more of him now than while he was out on loan
