Re: Women's football
91The Spanish Football Federation's handling of this "snog the scorer" controversy is only going to end one way. But boy are they making a meal of it.
All seems just a little bit too convenient though an unpopular president gets himself stitched up? There is more to this I thinkJonD wrote: August 26th, 2023, 1:57 pm The Spanish Football Federation's handling of this "snog the scorer" controversy is only going to end one way. On the contrary it’s because I support women I detest petty and distracting gripes like this one, if people want to help & support women moaning about a heat of the moment kiss is wasting valuable energy and just wimping out of tackling genuine discrimination.Exile 1976 wrote: August 26th, 2023, 3:45 pm You have a real problem with women. I think you must have some mammy issues.
The “backlash” to this kiss and virtue signalling tweets are a distraction from and a far easier sell than anyone actually doing anything meaningful for women’s football or wider women’s rights. I don’t know this Simon Harris but I doubt he gets his hands dirty campaigning for women’s rights.
Put far better than I did, I need to study your posts so as not to talk myself into a corner.lowandhard wrote: August 26th, 2023, 7:58 pm I think I’m with Cathedral County on this. It wasn’t great behaviour but it wasn’t crime of the century either. Everybody would have had a much more pleasant last few days if she had made it personally plain to him that such behaviour was unacceptable and everyone had got on with celebrating a fine win.
As it is, everybody’s upset, the nation is split, the guy will probably lose his job and relations between mens and women’s football in Spain is rather strained to say the least.
Over that incident? Really?
Edit: by the way, I’m not blaming the woman involved for all this circus, he was a fool to do what he did but I think some individuals and groups are using the incident for their own political ends. She was probably put in a position where she had to go along with all these consequences when it could and should have been sorted in five minutes.

Just because other people have it worse, it doesn't mean that someone can't complain about something.CathedralCounty wrote: August 26th, 2023, 2:34 pmAll seems just a little bit too convenient though an unpopular president gets himself stitched up? Even if he DID wilfully do it it was hardly the crime of the century.
False feminism sums it up, you have the Taliban who won’t even allow women out of their houses unaccompanied then you have a clumsy over excited FA president immediately after his country has just won a World Cup I know where my focus is and it’s not on some uncharitable sourpusses.
Indeed but this has gone way beyond a “complaint” and I have little sympathy with either side now, as much as I’m commenting here and taking the bait, I’m sick of hearing about this and to my point on the Taliban if the exiled Afghan women’s team had a tiny percentage of the coverage this overblown “incident” has received they would be overjoyed.DT1892 wrote: August 27th, 2023, 12:30 amJust because other people have it worse, it doesn't mean that someone can't complain about something.CathedralCounty wrote: August 26th, 2023, 2:34 pmAll seems just a little bit too convenient though an unpopular president gets himself stitched up? It’s not helping women’s football or women in general and is just wasted effort egged on by people who have little real interest in either.
In his defence, women are pretty annoying.Exile 1976 wrote: August 27th, 2023, 9:53 amCathedralCounty wrote: August 27th, 2023, 9:27 amIndeed but this has gone way beyond a “complaint” and I have little sympathy with either side now, as much as I’m commenting here and taking the bait, I’m sick of hearing about this and to my point on the Taliban if the exiled Afghan women’s team had a tiny percentage of the coverage this overblown “incident” has received they would be overjoyed.DT1892 wrote: August 27th, 2023, 12:30 amJust because other people have it worse, it doesn't mean that someone can't complain about something.CathedralCounty wrote: August 26th, 2023, 2:34 pmJonD wrote: August 26th, 2023, 1:57 pm The Spanish Football Federation's handling of this "snog the scorer" controversy is only going to end one way. It’s not helping women’s football or women in general because unfortunately for them, the world is full of men like you.
“Men like me”?! I watch quite a bit of women’s football on tv, have attended women’s games live and post women’s fixtures on my social media and draw attention to genuine inequality faced by women & minorities and support organisations who do so.Exile 1976 wrote: August 27th, 2023, 9:53 amCathedralCounty wrote: August 27th, 2023, 9:27 amIndeed but this has gone way beyond a “complaint” and I have little sympathy with either side now, as much as I’m commenting here and taking the bait, I’m sick of hearing about this and to my point on the Taliban if the exiled Afghan women’s team had a tiny percentage of the coverage this overblown “incident” has received they would be overjoyed.DT1892 wrote: August 27th, 2023, 12:30 amJust because other people have it worse, it doesn't mean that someone can't complain about something.CathedralCounty wrote: August 26th, 2023, 2:34 pmAll seems just a little bit too convenient though an unpopular president gets himself stitched up?
