Yuffie was his name I think?
Very likely to re-point the weareexiles.net URL to the other forum at the end of the season after taking a look at the options tonight.

17How welcome are people there? Seems like a diversity of ideas might not be encouraged.whoareya wrote: October 23rd, 2023, 7:05 pmThere is another forum - set up a while ago by a couple of posters on here when this site was unavailable.Trev wrote: October 23rd, 2023, 4:26 pm Yes for those of us who dont do bookface and twatter etc this is our only way of finding a lot of things out tbh if its money and not time that is closing this down then im sure we cd sort it again cant believe we had this forum in conference south days and now we are a league 2 club we are not even going to have a fans forum

It's not very busy, but would surely pick up if this site closes.

18I take the view that diversity of ideas isn't and should never be a problem, it's the immature and personel emotional responses towards those who post differing views that is and shouldn't be encouraged.Chepstow'sFine wrote: October 24th, 2023, 9:06 amHow welcome are people there? 20Well I've managed to stay un-banned on there......but there aren't the same agendas being played out on there compared to here.Chepstow'sFine wrote: October 24th, 2023, 9:06 amHow welcome are people there? Jack has confirmed this forum is ending, so there's not going to be much choice eventually.
Give it a try, because the one thing it does need is traffic, you'll soon identify posters that are on both forums.
Re: NOTICE: weareexiles.net changes
21It’s been asked here a number of times but not answered - how much does this forum cost to host?

22Have you tried messaging Jack about it?lowandhard wrote: October 24th, 2023, 6:46 pm It’s been asked here a number of times but not answered - how much does this forum cost to host?
Re: NOTICE: weareexiles.net changes
23Hosting and SSL this year was £172 and about 25 a year for the domain, we seem to get abnormal amounts of traffic still and this was the lowest I could talk the hosting package company down to.
It's stupidly steep considering a free version is pretty much not far off in terms of functionality.
I have offered up the opportunity for businesses to advertise a permanent link / sticky thread atop the forums to cover the costs but don't ever get interest.

24So about £200 would help this Forum to run at least another 12 months after the end of this season?Jack wrote: October 24th, 2023, 9:51 pm Hosting and SSL this year was £172 and about 25 a year for the domain, we seem to get abnormal amounts of traffic still and this was the lowest I could talk the hosting package company down to.

What you are also saying is this, If it was possible to find a number of local sponsors, this Forum could still be operating for a number of years to come (possibly)?
I don't quite understand the part where you say abnormal amount of traffic still, would you be able to explain that in more detail please.
Re: NOTICE: weareexiles.net changes
25Most hosting providers will do it for £20-£50 a year from scratch so clearly this place is trapped by the renewal premium
Jack has said it’s not possible to switch over, so probably best we either a) set up the other place with this domain or b) start a new forum at the above prices using this domain.

26Jack also made the point that owning, administering and moderating the site is a time consuming commitment.landinho wrote: October 25th, 2023, 9:55 am Most hosting providers will do it for £20-£50 a year from scratch so clearly this place is trapped by the renewal premium

Who's going to take on that responsibility?
Re: NOTICE: weareexiles.net changes
27How many users on here? £200 is nothing is it? Split it X ways, probably a price of a pint each. NB Not a Spoons pint
Re: NOTICE: weareexiles.net changes
28It's not the cost - we've had a whip around before and raised more than enough to keep it running.Bonson&Hunt wrote: October 28th, 2023, 9:42 am How many users on here? £200 is nothing is it? Split it X ways, probably a price of a pint each. NB Not a Spoons pint![]()
It's the time commitment and knowledge to manage, maintain, administer and moderate it that needs to be taken on by someone else.
I would imagine the occasions where the site fails and everyone is moaning about it makes it a thankless task fior anyone to undertake.

If a committee was formed (a group of volunteers), this Forum could be run so much better than it is (organised better).
Re: NOTICE: weareexiles.net changes
30You're 20 years too late, forums in general are dying. There isn't enough traffic to sustain two niche forums for a club like ours. Several posters who used to post here have moved to the AllThingsCounty forum and have said they won't be returning here.Torquay Exile wrote: October 30th, 2023, 2:03 pmwhoareya wrote: October 28th, 2023, 1:24 pmIt's not the cost - we've had a whip around before and raised more than enough to keep it running.Bonson&Hunt wrote: October 28th, 2023, 9:42 am How many users on here? £200 is nothing is it? If you think you can get enough interest to form a committee and make improvements then good luck to you, but I can't see that happening.
